Instructions
The Americano is a light, refreshing classic cocktail with a perfect balance of bitter and sweet. It’s the original inspiration for the Negroni and a great low-alcohol option.
Ingredients:
1 oz Campari
1 oz Sweet Vermouth
3 oz Club Soda
Ice
Orange peel garnish
Instructions:
Combine ingredients: In a Collins glass, pour both the Campari and sweet vermouth of your choosing
Add Ice: Top with fresh ice to the rim of the glass
Fizz!: Tilting the glass at an angle, pour the soda water against the edge of the glass and the top ice cube, holding the carbonation within the glass
Garnish: Express the orange peel on the top of the glass, line the rim with the peel, twist, and serve
The Americano cocktail has a rich history dating back to the 1860s, making it one of the oldest classic cocktails still enjoyed today. It was first served at Gaspare Campari’s bar, Caffè Campari, in Milan, Italy. Originally known as the "Milano-Torino", the drink’s name came from its key ingredients: Campari (from Milan) and sweet vermouth (from Turin).
It wasn’t until the early 20th century that it became known as the Americano—reportedly because it was a favorite among American tourists visiting Italy during Prohibition. Its light, refreshing nature and lower alcohol content made it an ideal aperitivo, perfect for sipping before a meal.
