5 minutes
1 Servings
Medium
Instructions
Ingredients:
2 ounces gin (London Dry or yuzu-forward gin preferred)
3–4 fresh shiso leaves (plus extra for garnish)
1 ounce freshly squeezed yuzu juice (or substitute with lemon-lime mix if yuzu unavailable)
1/2 ounce honey syrup (see Notes)
1/4 ounce elderflower liqueur (optional, for floral depth)
1 dash orange bitters (optional but recommended)
Ice cubes
Garnish: Fresh shiso leaf or edible flower (e.g., orchid or pansy)
Instructions
1. Muddle Shiso Aromatics (Optional):
For a more vibrant herbal fragrance, gently clap or lightly muddle 1–2 shiso leaves at the bottom of your shaker before adding the other ingredients. (Optional, but highly recommended.)
2. Add Liquids:
In a cocktail shaker, combine the gin, yuzu juice, honey syrup, elderflower liqueur (if using), and bitters.
3. Add Ice and Shake:
Fill the shaker with ice, seal tightly, and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until well-chilled.
4. Strain:
Double strain into a chilled coupe or Nick & Nora glass using a Hawthorne strainer and fine-mesh strainer for a silky, pulp-free texture.
5. Garnish:
Float a fresh shiso leaf on top or decorate with an edible flower for a delicate, floral finish.
Notes
Honey Syrup: Mix 2 parts honey with 1 part hot water, stir until fully dissolved, and let cool. This ensures smooth blending without clumps.
Flavor Profile: The Shiso Floral Cocktail highlights the refreshing green-herbal notes of shiso, balanced with bright yuzu acidity and gentle honey sweetness. Elderflower liqueur deepens the floral dimension, but you can skip it for a cleaner, crisper profile.
Variation Ideas:
Swap gin for vodka for a lighter, subtler base.
Replace elderflower with lychee liqueur for a tropical twist.
Top with sparkling sake or Prosecco for a lively brunch-friendly version.
Inspiration:
Drawing inspiration from Japanese garden botanicals, this cocktail captures a perfect balance of herbal freshness, floral elegance, and citrus brightness, a refreshing, sophisticated sip ideal for spring and summer evenings.
