Instructions
First written down in Pioneers of Mixing at Elite Bars, a book from 1933, this cocktail was one of the kings of Prohibition. When spirits in the United States were illegal to produce, bootleggers started making their own alcohol. Since they weren't master distillers, bartenders had to get creative with the flavors to mask what may have been less than stellar spirits. Raspberry syrup, here's your time to shine!
In a shaker, pour:
3/4oz lemon juice
3/4oz raspberry syrup
2oz gin
add ice, past the wash line of the cocktail, close the tin, and shake. Shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds, until the outside of the shaker is frosty and your fingers are cold!
open your shaker and top with a strainer, strain into a coupe, and serve!
