Jalapeño Sunrise
5 minutes
1 Servings
Medium
Instructions
Ingredients:
1 1/2 ounces tequila (preferably blanco or lightly peppery tequila)
3 ounces freshly squeezed orange juice
1/2 ounce fresh lime juice
1/4–1/2 ounce jalapeño simple syrup (adjust to heat preference)
1/4 ounce grenadine
Ice cubes
Fresh jalapeño slice, for garnish
Orange wedge or wheel (optional garnish)
Instructions:
Prepare the glass:
Fill a highball or Collins glass with ice to chill while you prepare the drink.
Build the base:
In a shaker filled with ice, combine the tequila, orange juice, lime juice, and jalapeño simple syrup.
Shake:
Shake well for about 10–12 seconds until nicely chilled.
Strain:
Discard the ice in the serving glass and refill with fresh ice. Strain the shaken mixture into the glass.
Create the sunrise:
Slowly pour the grenadine down the inside of the glass. It will sink and gradually rise into the drink, creating the signature sunrise gradient.
Garnish:
Garnish with a fresh jalapeño slice and an orange wedge. For extra aroma and visual flair, lightly press the jalapeño slice before adding.
Notes:
Balancing heat:
Jalapeño syrup adds warmth without overwhelming the drink. Start with 1/4 ounce and increase if you prefer more spice.
Layering tip:
Pour the grenadine slowly along the inside of the glass to keep the layered sunrise effect intact.
Fresh juice matters:
Fresh orange and lime juice keep the cocktail bright and balanced against the spice.
Background:
The Jalapeño Sunrise is a spicy twist on the classic tequila sunrise. By adding jalapeño heat and fresh lime, the drink gains complexity while keeping the vibrant citrus base and iconic layered look. It’s a bold, refreshing cocktail that works beautifully for summer gatherings, brunches, or spicy cocktail lovers.
Variations:
Add a splash of sparkling water for a lighter, slightly fizzy version.
Muddle a few fresh jalapeño slices in the shaker for extra spice instead of using syrup.
Swap tequila for mezcal for a smoky, spicy sunrise.
Add a dash of orange bitters for additional depth and citrus aroma.
